A vital part of getting girls to like you is to impress them. Simply telling them how great you are might be a tempting approach to this effect, though unfortunately it tends market you as an arrogant braggart rather than as a catch of a romantic partner. Yet there are ways to flaunt your awesomeness that work around the negative connotations of bragging.

If you must, bragging modestly will get you further than blatant self-promotion. This translates to being confidently assertive about your abilities when the situation allows it. In other words only do it if your skills at football, writing or basket-weaving are relevant to the context. Do this regardless of whether the girl you like is around or not, as just as with other behaviors someone is likely to notice and feed on to her how you are acting up around her.

Better yet is to show your skills rather than telling everyone about it. Apply yourself to the best of your ability in every field of regular activity so as to showcase your greatness to the world. Whatever your talents might be someone is bound to notice them. When they do, do not try to brush off their appreciation by denying compliments. Accept them gracefully instead, thus boosting your confidence as well as retaining the admiration of they who offered it.

The last part is in fact what effective bragging is all about. Rather than promoting yourself you want others to do it for you, though inevitably asking them to or appearing to be fishing for compliments will work against this particular effect. Acting and performing at your best is, on the other hand, conducive to people noticing you and talking about you, and that will inevitably come to include the girl that you like or that of her friends. It might not be enough by itself for getting girls to like you enough to consider being your girlfriend, but it ensures that when you finally approach her she already has a good impression of you.
