Playing hard to get is one of the most basic tricks in the books for getting a girlfriend. Basically being the ability to exercise restraint, it helps in gauging to what extent your date is interested in you and may even in some cases reverse the roles, making her do all the work in catching you.

Employed in moderation it serves as a guard against the pitfalls of apparent neediness or desperation. Moreover, as if that is not reason enough to learn the how of it, it is also just as readily employed by the opposite sex for the very same purpose. By learning more you will thus be better equipped for recognizing when a lady is disinterested and when she is merely pretending to be so in order to coax you into making an effort to impress her.

The most famous way of playing hard to get is to not respond to phone-calls or text messages right away. In postponing contact ever so slightly you convey signals of a busy and active life, suggesting that your time is valuable and that you therefore are not always available for hanging out at their convenience. It can add some flair of excitement to your personality, not to mention that it is a good start in setting boundaries should the girl eventually become your girlfriend.

Less renowned but just as tried and tested is to be intentionally vague in planning or conversation. Do not answer questions explicitly, but instead leave plenty of space for the person to want to learn more about you. As for dating suggestions, be vague to begin with and get back to them later. Restraint in this respect will stop you from seeming too eager while simultaneously keeping your target on her toes.

However be advised not to play excessively hard to get. Too much of it and you will seem cold, aloof and disinterested, which is not at all conducive to getting a girlfriend. The best approach is to combine the aforementioned ways of playing hard to get with a light-hearted and flirtatious approach, so as to reassure the girl that you have not lost interest in her completely.
