It might be nerve-racking to walk up to a woman and strike up a conversation, but it has to be done if you are serious about wanting to take her out. While in this day and age exceptions do exist, the genetic roles of hunter and prey ensures that women take a more passive role in courtship.

The initiative therefore remains with us men, as does the performance-related fear of being turned down or making fools of ourselves. Although having the right attitude can counter these fears, choosing the right situation can also aid in allaying them. While technically any time and place is fair game for approaching women, there are occasions when they are more receptive to strangers than others. Pay attention to the following factors to minimize the risk of being rejected.

Does she wear formal or casual clothes? If she dresses in the former she most likely have things coming up on her schedule, whereas the latter implies that she is free of other obligations. It should not take a genius to figure out in which of these two scenarios she is more open to pleasant diversions.

Similarly does she appear busy or relaxed? A stressed or preoccupied woman is less likely to be accommodating towards a stranger than one who appears not to have anything in particular on her mind.

Is she with friends or alone? It stands to reason that as approaching women on their own can be nerve-racking enough, it is far worse when they are grouped together with their friends. On top of making you more nervous, peer pressure means that the outcome of your attempt to woo her will be affected by her friends’ approval or disapproval of you.

Finally you should not think of these pointers as set in stone. It does pay off to acknowledge them, but if a woman is sending you the right signals it does not matter what she is doing or who she is with.
