Although you do not want your first interaction with a girl you like to seem rehearsed, it is a good idea to think of what to talk about in advance so as to keep the conversation flowing naturally once it gets started. The best idea is in fact to write a list of what you could talk about and imprint it firmly in memory. Keep the following pointers in mind when you plan the conversation:

1.       It needs to be a neutral and impersonal topic. Relate it to the immediate context in which you plan to approach her. For instance if you are in the same class you could talk about homework or a teacher you have, and if you are colleagues you could discuss the recent goings-on at work.

2.       You need to have an opening line that is related to the topic in order to engage her in conversation. As a statement is more easily ignored than a query it better come with a question tag at the end. Also be sure to ask a question that may lead to a conversation. A simple yes or no question could suffice if it can be followed up on with another question, though an open question will generally generate more options in which you may keep the conversation going.

3.       Following on from the second point, you need to be able to steer the conversation from the initial neutral topic to more personal ground. This is the trickiest stage of your first conversation with a girl you like. If you go for it too soon you might seem too intrusive, but if you wait too long or skip too many openings you might not get another chance.

Planning will make it easier to approach and talk with the girl you like, but do not worry if the conversation takes a different path from what you had imagined. Just go with the flow and enjoy it.
